Location: STAHL CraneSystems > Home > The Company > Company History > The electric pulley blocks and the paternoster
At the beginning of the 20th century, electrical energy increasingly replaces steam as motive power. R. STAHL soon perceives this second industrial revolution and in 1903 concentrates systematically on the production of electric pulley blocks. For the first time, these use a calibrated round link chain as load-bearing element.

Simultaneously, the company starts to design a type of lift which even today is still popular and inspires nostalgia and respect for the technology involved: the paternoster.

Five years later, the first of these lifts built by Rafael Stahl is commissioned
in the Graf Eberhard building in Stuttgart.
