Weekend skippers on a high

14.05.2012

Gustow, Rügen | Vetter Krantechnik has erected a boat crane on the island of Rügen in the Baltic. Equipped with chain hoist and crane components from  STAHL CraneSystems, the crane can lift boats weighing up to 20 t.

At 10 m in height and with a lifting capacity of 20 t, the new slewing crane is one of the largest boat cranes on Rügen. ST 50 chain hoists from STAHL CraneSystems are installed on its four horizontal booms, each with a maximum S.W.L. of 5 t. A cumulative load controller measures the load on each of the hoists and shows the total suspended weight on a display. At the same time it monitors the difference in the loads on the booms: the controller signals and disconnects the chain hoists if the load distribution differs by more than 1,000 kg.
A fifth chain hoist is situated on a top boom at the top of the crane. The ST 10 chain hoist has a lifting height of 12 metres and with its S.W.L. of 1 t is intended for raising boats' masts.
Harbour operator Till Jauch has invested around two million euros in "Gustow natural harbour". The natural harbour in the south of Rügen, with 150 berths, 870 square metres of service and storage depot and a reception building, has been an idyllic place of refuge for weekend skippers and charter yachts since 2011.
